HGUC RX-78-2

The first model I'm gonna post here is as the title suggests the High Grade RX-78-2. This model is relatively cheap and simple with few runners. For this blog, most if not all of the model kits have been built and I threw the runners away after that. It's not meant to be a thorough review of the kits I own but more to sharing what I have built and the process involved.

For this kit, I painted the red and blue with Mr Hobby spray paints. Just needed a quick coat as the model is small. For the beam rifle and bazooka I paint-brushed with Mr Hobby primary black paint. The small V on the crotch is originally red but I painted it with a yellow Gundam marker. Also used the marker for the rest of the yellow parts.

The backpack, elbow joints and knee joints are dry-brushed with metal iron colour. Did some panel lining wherever appropriate and finished it off with a layer of matte top coat. Below are a few more pictures. This kit only comes with a pair of hands which are those with a big hole in the middle to hold the weapons. It also comes with a pair of pink beam sabers which I didn't bother to pose the model with.

The model was quick to assemble even with all the painting and panel lining. As I mentioned, there are very few runners and the parts are simple. In fact you can pretty much tell what goes where without looking at the manual. Overall it's pretty worth it considering the price but being a High Grade, the articulation is not terribly good. The colours also needed a bit of touching up out of the box and panel-lining is a must or it'll look really bland.
